Who’s Rosie? And what’s a Gooey Butter Cookie?

Rosie’s Place has three cafes and bakeries located on the Northside of Indy. Rosie is the grandmother who started it all. Rosie’s Place was named in her honor when the first bakery opened in 2010.

And the Gooey Butter Cookie, well they’re sort of a thing. It all started with Gooey Butter Cake, a St. Louis staple. The story goes that in the 1930s a St. Louis baker accidentally reversed the proportions of sugar and butter in a cake recipe and instead of throwing it out, he put the “mistake” out to sell and it was a huge hit. Soon, the sweet gooey cake became a local bakery staple.

At Rosie’s, customers loved the cake but wanted something handheld to enjoy anytime. The original cookie recipe was born. The cookie is buttery, vanilla gooey goodness! Nothing beats the original, a cult favorite, but our other tasty flavors come close. You will have to try them all and tell us your favorite.

The cookie is too good not to share with the world. Today, it is sold in the midwest in local grocery stores like Whole Foods and Market District as well as online - baked fresh, shipped same-day.
